November 1972
(George Deem published "Hitchhiking" in White Walls, No. 22 (Spring 1989) Incidents of Travel. He offered the editor a photograph of his three paintings Lemon (American Still Life) and Breakfast Lunch Dinner and White Still Life "for possible use as illustrations").
Lemon (American Still Life) goes with the paragraph about cooking with lemons and with the paragraph about everything being different in another country. It shows six different ways of painting a still-life, the subject being the same. Breakfast Lunch Dinner relates to the listings of meals while traveling. White Still Life is a kitchen scene in Italy. (George Deem, letter to Tim Porges, editor, White Walls, 6 March 1989).
