...You ask me about obstacles that a painter may have to overcome when starting a new work. For me, no obstacle ever gets in the way of my beginning a new painting. When I begin I am unaware of anything but the germ of a painting idea. My only concern is to see whether my medium, oil on canvas, can answer to that hinted-at concept.
