Artist's note on the work
The figures of the family come from an anonymous photograph. A friend showed me samples of waterproof wallpaper she was considering for use in her bathroom, and gave me some of these samples: stars, stripes, a border with a boating scene. I cut and pasted these pieces of wallpaper into a collage design over which I painted the figures, using a loose brushy paint application that lets the figures move in and out of the underlying wallpaper patterns in an interchangeably transparent relationship.
