Reference Vermeer, The Art of Painting, c. 1666-67. Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. George Deem signed and dated this painting under the cartouche on the map. A Stool, a Chair, and a Map and Vermeer Detail (2003) are companion pictures. When exhibited together, hang Vermeer Detail six inches to the right of A Stool, a Chair, and a Map, measuring edge of frame to edge of frame. Position the top of the frame of Vermeer Detail lower than the midpoint of A Stool, a Chair, and a Map.
