| Image Notes
Duchamp's Mona Lisa may not be on hand, but the smiling visage is gleefully altered by two other artists who also undermine its icon status. George Deem flips the painting sideways, then performs some additional wickedness by turning the famous face upside down -- on its head, as it were. And Paul Giovanopoulos gives us a grid of Mona Lisas, altered in the style of everyone from Botticelli to Dali. (Karin Lipson, Review of Art After Art Exhibition at the Nassau County Museum of Art, Roslyn,Harbor, New York,"Appropriationists' Pilfering from Past,"Newsday, The Long Island Newspaper, October 7, 1994).
