... One painting that was reproduced in the English magazine Art & Artists ... is a painting of a Raeburn portrait called Reproduction (that is, my title is Reproduction). (My portrait) of Lady Dufferin is called A Picture of a Portrait of Lady Dufferin, and ... it has the same format as this Raeburn portrait.(George Deem, letter to Udo Kultermann, December 18, 1970)
"Picture of a Portrait of Lady Dufferin" 1967. In the collection of Lord and Lady Dufferin, London. The title is descriptive; the picture has a painted border all around the portrait itself. The photo has been cropped right up to the border. So the photo is of the complete painting. This painting, as I wrote to you, has the same format as my painting using a Raeburn portrait of a lady which is called "Reproduction" and which was reproduced in color in Arts and Artists magazine in February 1968. They were much admired these two paintings when hanging side by side in my studio, but they have never been exhibited together. The portrait of Lady Dufferin was exhibited in my spring 1968 show at the Allan Stone Gallery.(George Deem, letter to Udo Kultermann, April 6, 1971)
