Silver Church in New Hampshire.
I spent the month of July 1979 at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire. The light in that season tends to be very bright in open areas and the foliage goes yellow green. In the humid air, the light is hazy and things look wet even at midday. When one goes into the woods it is dark and close under the trees and green turns to nearly black. I used to go for walks on a road near Peterborough where I saw this church. It is built on a stretch of level open ground and has trees behind it and then a wooded hill going steeply up, really quite close to the church. In the hazy light the white church turned silver, prompting me in this work to use a commercial silver radiator paint right out of the can.
