Woman in Green with Vermeer's Lacemaker, 1979. This painting is based on the color yellow. There are two focal planes, one behind the other. The deeper plane: Vermeer's Lacemaker, glazed over with yellow. The closer plane: the woman in green; the green has (been) darkened and becomes purple in order to bring the green sweater on the woman forward. Three primary colors: Red Yellow Blue. Red plus blue to make purple, the strongest complement to yellow. This strong purple area works with yellow to push yellow back and create space for Vermeer's Lacemaker. (George Deem, Feb 1980).
