Western Studies
I was involved with western images, western colors, the idea of the West. I realized that the man on the horse was too small so I painted the image again larger. Then I saw that the two figures looked good together and I could leave them as they were, having two figures side by side instead of one man on a horse. I had Winslow Homer's boys playing snap-the-whip on the right and I ran out of space and I saw that I could leave that area just as it was. These ideas came to be in the drawing as I worked on it.
